Ash re-signs for Park

Ash Smith
Ashley Smith has re-signed for Percy Park after a spell at Tynedale and will be available for selection this Saturday for the league match against Gateshead. Smith spent the summer training at Tynedale and played several games for the 1st XV, before decided to return to his home club.

The return of Ash will be a tonic for the coaches who have been  unhappy with the performance of the Park back line in the last two league games, and will give the team a much needed boost going into the second half of the season.Player coaches Martin Shaw and James Ponton are both expected back in a Park shirt in the New Year after recovering from long term injuries.

Park's wheels come off at City

Well, I took some stick last week for the Clarksonesk metaphor concerning the performance against Darlington, so this week I'll stick to the facts.

City were deserved winners with 4 tries a conversion and penalty to Park's two penalties kicked by Phil Morse in the absence of Marcus Rutter who was sidelined due to a dead leg sustained in training on Wednesday. Although the Park pack utterly destroyed the Durham City scrum, there was no penetration and the back's apart from Scotty at scrum half and Griff at full back were poor on the day.

Let's hope Santa brings an early Christmas present next week at home to Gateshead.

PERCY PARK 24 - 12 CARLISLE

PERCY PARK 24 – 12 CARLISLE

The unprecedented rainfall in Cumbria in the previous week meant the game was switched from Warwick Road to Preston Avenue as Carlisle’s pitches were waterlogged. The visitors didn’t have the best of preparations either with their late rearranged coach not turning up, so they had to travel to North Shields by car. This didn’t show in their performance however as the started with a bang, and had much of the early possession.

PERCY PARK 6 - 20 DARLINGTON

PERCY PARK 6 – 20 DARLINGTON

To say Percy Park didn’t fire on all cylinders would be somewhat of an understatement, and it has to be said the performance was more like an eastern block trabant firing on one cylinder, and to continue the motoring analogy Park rarely got out of first gear.

CARLISLE GAME SWITCHED TO PARK

Due to the horrendous weather in Cumbria, and the fact that Carlisle's pitch is currently waterlogged, with the threat of even more rain, it has been agreed that we will switch venues to ensure the match goes ahead. With 14 teams in the league there are fewer available Saturday's if games are postponed, and Carlisle now already have another game to play on the first free Saturday, the 6th February 2010. The RFU North Competitions Committee decided that Old Crosleyans and Carlisle must replay their game which Crocs narrowley won as the game ended with uncontested scrums.

KO on Saturday 2.15pm. Park will go to Carlisle on the 20th March 2010.
