Wallsend brought a squad of some 25 players to Preston Avenue for a pre-season training game against a mixed Park squad. The opening 40 minute session saw Percy Park field a strong side, although there were still one or two 1st XV regulars missing due to holiday and work commitments. The session ended with Park up 28 - 0 after tries from Rutter, Scott, Reekie and Smith and four conversions by Rutter.
Both sides made several changes for the second session, with Park changing the whole pack, with several of last year's academy featuring. Hooker Tom Pollock scored a good try made by a strong break by Johnny Dubois. Sean Williamson then finished off a fine individual run with a dummy before stepping inside the cover defence to score. The game was then interupted by a injury to one of the Wallsend wingers which required an ambulance then the air ambulance attended to take him to hospital. The game was moved to the second XV pitch.
Park continued their strong showing with further tries by Potts (2), before John Scott scored his second try after a quick tap penalty caught the visitors napping. Baldwin for Wallsend scored a couple of tries in the last session before Colin Murphy and Ash Smith went over for the home side.
Pre season preparation continues with a mid week training session with Blaydon (venue to be arranged), and games against Ponteland on Saturday 28th August KO 3pm.
