Welcome to Percy Park RFC

Park double over Ilkley

PERCY PARK 20 – 0 ILKLEY

In one of only two games to survive the weather in league North 1 East, Park ran out winners against a tenacious Ilkley who never stopped competing throughout, despite spending a good deal of the game with only 14 players on the pitch.

For the first quarter of an hour it was fairly obvious that neither side had be able to play any rugby for the last month due to the snow and sub zero temperatures which have swept the whole country. Park broke the deadlock with a Thomas Turnbull try and from then on in always looked likely winners.

Park Academy v Northern 16th Jan 2010

Northern 0 Percy Park 34

Percy Park finally got to play some rugby after five weeks layoff due to the weather. Park dominated for most of the game scoring three tries each half but looked a little rusty with many passes going astray. Slow ball at the breakdown hindered the fast flowing game that Park enjoy but overall it was a good introduction to the second half of the season. Tries through J. Dubois, M. Robson, A. Knox, Z. Rutter, H. Stock and M. Atkinson sealed the win against a plucky Northern side.

Frosty the snowman wins reprieve

Well it looks as though Frosty the Snowman lives to fight another day as all games are cancelled this week due to the winter whiteout experienced all over the country. The Gateshead game which should have been played on 19th December 2009 has been moved to the 6th February which means the Northumberland Senior Cup game away to Wallsend will have to be postponed.

Rovers are due to play Old Crocs in a rearranged game on 27th February which means the next free date to play the game will be on 3rd April 2010. All rearranged games will be confirmed by the RFU North Competitions Committee in due course.

No rugby for 4 weeks! What a horrible thought. Let's hope the weather improves next week otherwise we'll all go stir crazy!

Shawsy returns for Ilkley game

Martin Shaw has been named in the side to face bottom of the table Ilkley at Preston Avenue on Saturday. Shawsy last played in the corresponding fixture at Ilkley back in October and has been out of action since, due to a potentially career threatening eye injury sustained in the dying minutes of that game which Park won 39 - 12.

Percy Park will be looking to get back to winning ways, and supporters will just be glad of some rugby, with the weather playing havoc with sport over the last four weeks. Park name a full strength side which also sees the return of Ash Smith at fly half, and Marcus Rutter at full back.

Refs 6 - Gateshead 0

The scene was set for a great day, a light sprinkling of snow, 140 members enjoying the club Christmas lunch, the trabant fully serviced, tuned up,polished and ready to go with all hopes high that by about 3:45pm it would be traded in for a newer model.
