While the thoroughbreds on the Ist XV pitch refused at the first hurdle, the carthorses were let loose on the adjacent farmers field, and put on a fine display of rugby in bitter conditions to entertain the crowd disappointed that the league and cup double header was not to take place.
This was one of the few games in the North of England to survive the weather, and despite Alnwick having most of the play in the first 20 minutes, Park stole a 12 point lead with tries by Paul Love and Gary Davy, with the latter converting his own try. The home side had the advantage of the not inconsiderable slope, wind and sun at their backs, but stout Park defence kept them at bay.
Park extended the lead through a forward drive shortly before half time and led 19 - 0 at the break.
In the second half Alnwick came back with two tries and a conversion, but a further Park try sealed the win to maintain the pressure on the top of the Northumberland 2b league.
