Help For Heroes Percy Park Bike Ride

In order to celebrate a few of the groups advancing march towards and past the 40 year mark, it was decided to organise a cycle ride from Whitehaven to Tynemouth.  The group of 11 cyclists is made up of various ages and physical specimens with one common goal, to raise as much as possible for Help the Heroes.  The plan is to leave Whitehaven on Friday afternoon and arrive in Tynemouth on Sunday evening.

The group is made up of Gav Yates, Chris Rowley, Jim Hilton, Ade Bartle, Mel Clyde, Craig Bartle, John Guthrie, Liam Casey, Nick Shepherd, Rouven Snowdon, Don Millican.

League Fixtures 10/11

The fixtures are now out for the new season, and Park will be away at Hartlepool Rovers for the first game on Saturday 4th September 2010. The following week is the first home game which will be against Morpeth.

Park end the season in style

Percy Park 34 – 17 Old Crossleyans

Park will be hoping to start next season’s North One East campaign the way they finished off 2009/10, with four consecutive wins, the last of which was a fine win at home to Old Crossleyans. This game should have been played back in January, but was a casualty of the winter snow, so the game was rearranged for 1st May, two weeks after the original closing date of the season. 

It has to be said that both teams were not at full strength, but produced a good game of running rugby, assisted in no small part by referee Mickey Reid, who allowed both teams to play, and so entertain the May Day crowd.

Park won the county plate in style yesterday at Border Park RFC against Ponteland. Having defeated our opponents four times this season in league matches Park had to guard against complacency and actually took some time to get into the game as a bright, committed Ponteland side started well, full of fire and passion that rocked Park in the early exchanges. Unsurprisingly Ponteland took a deserved lead, kicking a penalty from a Park off-side on their 22 for 0 - 3. Having had the wake up call Park responded and though territory remained even, their visits into Pont's 22 often led to points being scored. Tries by Davidson, Atkinson and McFarlane were backed up by three conversions by Spowart. McFarlane's try being the pick of the half as it was a great team try finished well by a player with still lots to do to score. Half time score Park 21  Ponteland 3.

With Park having the slope in the second half it was assumed our opponents would have been over run but to their credit Pont battled well and pressured Parks 22 on a number of occasions. Further tries by Irving, Robertson and Cottingham, again all converted by Spowart completed the scoring to make it 42 - 3. Ponteland battled till the end despite having a large casualty list with a number of players having to leave the pitch due to injuries. Their spirit before, during and after the game was top class and hopefully many of these players will remain in senior rugby next year.
